April 2016: Josh and Jacob Funk
Annie Bailey’s: Lancaster’s Only Authentic Irish Pub!
Brothers Josh and Jacob Funk knew at an early age that they wanted to commit their careers to the restaurant and hospitality industry. After growing up in Lancaster and both attending Penn State University for Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management, Josh and Jacob went their separate ways. Josh started off by joining the National Press Club in Washington D.C. where he quickly went from Evening Manager to Director of Business Development and Operations, a role where he was charged with growing the organization and sales team. Jacob went to work for the Pappas Restaurant Group in Chicago and ultimately ended up in Atlanta as an Assistant General Manager overseeing both the front and back of the house of a multi-million dollar restaurant.
With Josh being in Washington D.C. and Jacob in Atlanta, the brothers tried to visit home as often as possible but not as much as they would have liked. When Josh saw that Annie Bailey’s was up for sale, they looked at their finances and realized the additional opportunity that might be afforded by moving home. In August 2013, Josh and Jacob bought the building and business from the previous owners and became their own bosses. While they didn’t need to make any physical improvements to the building, they started to make small changes to the operation. This included introducing more craft beer to their tap and bottle selection, adding better kitchen equipment, and installing a new computer system for their staff. They also revamped the menu, which consists of the best Irish fare, specialties and drink offerings in the area.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this month, Annie Bailey’s has always been a place that gives back to the community around it. As the founding member of the King Street Seisiun, an Irish Celebration block party in downtown Lancaster, it has been able to raise funds for Lancaster City Alliance, The Lancaster Office of Promotion, Junior League of Lancaster, Music for Everyone, A Week Away, and the United Way of Lancaster. Annie Bailey’s is also the host location for the largest St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s annual Head Shaving Event in the state. This event, which is organized by local firefighters, has proudly raised over $100,000 every year since 2007 for childhood cancer research. Be sure to stop by Annie Bailey’s to help it celebrate its 10th year. For more information, please visit www.anniebaileys.com!
